Despite cattle鈥檚 economic importance, scientists still have a long way to go to fully understand mechanisms that govern important genetic traits in the animals such as growth and disease resistance.</p> June 21, 2018 - 12:14pm Amy M Quinton /news/uc-davis-lead-national-cow-genomics-effort /news/uc-davis-settles-animal-welfare-citation <p>The University of California, Davis, has agreed to pay a penalty of $5,000 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to resolve a citation under the Animal Welfare Act.&nbsp;</p> <p>The July 2016 citation described a procedure on a rabbit that was to be euthanized before recovering from anesthesia. The rabbit died under anesthesia when a valve was inadvertently left closed.
