Grand Challenges Announces Initial Focus Areas

The Grand Challenges initiative has announced that its initial focus areas will be: emerging health threats; climate crisis; reimagining the land grant university; and sustainable food systems. Grand Challenges aims to bring together campus researchers to tackle the most difficult problems facing our world.

But some species have always been rare — occurring in small densities throughout their range — throughout their evolutionary history. Yet little is known about the traits that allow for them to be chronically rare and stay rare for long periods of time.
