69³ÉÈË Unveils Innovative 'Reservation for College' Program

What: Nearly 100 4th graders will be congratulated as the inaugural class of 69³ÉÈË' "Reservation for College" program, a 9-year course in educational achievement and college preparation for students and their parents. A partnership between 69³ÉÈË, PG&E Co. and Sacramento City schools, "Reservation for College" provides academic guidance and encouragement in communities with a history of educational disadvantage. Specific details of the program, including a substantial financial commitment from 69³ÉÈË to its future students, will be released at the event. When: 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10 Where: Father Keith B. Kenny Elementary School, Sacramento Visuals: Congratulating the children and introducing the program will be 69³ÉÈË Chancellor Larry N. Vanderhoef, Lt. Gov. and UC Regent Cruz Bustamante, State Senator Deborah Ortiz and Assemblymember Darrell Steinberg. Kenny Principal Mertie Shelby will discuss her school's involvement, and parents and children will provide testimonials on what the program means for their educational future. A PG &E Co. representative will present 69³ÉÈË with a check for ongoing support. All participants will be available for one-on-one interviews at the conclusion of the presentation. Background: "Reservation for College" is the latest permanent addition to 69³ÉÈË' K-16 educational outreach initiatives, all of which are designed to increase the number of students prepared for admission to the University of California, the California State University and community college systems. The wide array of programs also aims to develop high achieving schools in disadvantaged communities by working directly with teachers and school administrators. Directions: Take Highway 99 south to the 12th Avenue exit, turn left, cross over to the east side of the freeway. At the second light, turn left on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
