Keynoter Named for International Research Conference

Topic: Sexual Harassment of Women in Academia

Global Affairs announced the keynote speaker for its 2018 International Research Conference at 69成人 in September: Mills College President Elizabeth L. Hillman, addressing the topic of sexual harassment of women in academia.

In particular, Hillman will discuss a recently released, consensus report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, and the report鈥檚 implications pertaining to the conference theme, 鈥淚nnovation Within Changing Political and Research Environments.鈥

Hillman, a scholar of history and law who speaks and publishes frequently on issues of sexual violence and gender equity, contributed to the report as a member of the academies鈥 Committee on Impacts of Sexual Harassment in Academia.

The conference, the first of its kind on the West Coast, is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18. Hillman鈥檚 talk is scheduled for the first day, Sept. 17, during the conference luncheon, 12:15-1:45 p.m., at the .

The two-day program includes plenary sessions, small breakout sessions, TED-style talks, poster presentations, discussions with funding agencies, and opportunities for networking across disciplines and borders. 

The conference will bring together researchers and leaders from academia, industry and private and public funding agencies from around the world to discuss:

  • The changing political environment and its impact on international research
  • The increasing importance of networks and consortia in advancing international research
  • The role of interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research in solving global challenges
  • Educating the next generation of international researchers

Speakers representing Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Africa, Latin America and North America will speak on topics ranging from emerging funding trends and evaluating the impact of international research to knowledge sharing between university and industry partners and strategies universities are developing to educate the next generation of researchers.

The conference also includes a luncheon with Northern California-based consul generals, and a reception at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art. Preconference tours will take in the Napa Valley and the 69成人 Tahoe Environmental Research Center.
